What it is
Sweet Home 3D is an interior design program. You draw the plan of a house or room, place furniture, doors and windows, and then look at the result in 3D. It is made by Space Mushrooms and describes itself as "a free interior design application". It is not an AI tool. We included it as a free tool for a common home job.
Is it free?
Yes, on computers and in the browser. Sweet Home 3D's FAQ says you can use it "free of charge, for personal or commercial purpose", under the GNU General Public License, with the installer version or the Online version. Its download page lists a free version on SourceForge for Windows, macOS and Linux, with 100 pieces of furniture and 26 textures.
Some versions cost money. The same page lists paid store versions on the Microsoft Store and Mac App Store with about 1,610 pieces of furniture and 423 textures. It says the iOS and Android app is a paid version. Check the price in the store before you install. We did not find an official INR price.
What you can do with it
- Draw a floor plan: straight, round or sloping walls with exact sizes, plus room areas and dimension lines, per the features page.
- Furnish it: drag doors, windows and furniture from a searchable catalogue. You can change colour, texture and size.
- See it in 3D: an aerial view or a walk-through view while you draw in 2D.
- Render images and videos: it says you can control lights and sunlight by time of day and place.
- Export: PDF, images, videos and 3D files. You can import a blueprint to draw walls over it.
- Languages: it says its interface and help come in 29 languages.
What to watch out for
- The free computer version has a small catalogue. More models and textures are offered as free downloads on SourceForge, per the download page.
- The Online version needs a WebGL browser, per the features page.
- Its FAQ lists very modest system needs (a 400 MHz processor and 256 MB of memory) and says it runs on Windows 98 to 11, macOS up to Sonoma and Linux.
Privacy and data
- Its privacy policy says it does not collect private data on its website except for users registered in the forum, shows no advertising, and keeps server traffic logs private.
- It says registered users' data is the login, encrypted password, email, forum posts and online homes. It says homes data is private unless you choose to share it.
- It says pages show the SourceForge logo and some videos hosted elsewhere, which could let those sites track visits.
- For store versions, it says the stores manage download information and Space Mushrooms does not receive personally identifiable data about those users.
India
- The site is global and we saw no country limit. We did not test downloads or the store apps from India.
