Photoroom product photos: free limits and seller guide
Photoroom removes backgrounds and offers AI tools for product photos. A Free plan exists, but its official help says Free Spaces cannot be used commercially. Sellers should check the paid licence before using an export in a listing.

What is Photoroom?
Photoroom is a photo editor for product photography. Its official website lists background removal, product staging, resizing and brand tools. Paid plans offer different allowances for AI backgrounds, fashion models and video. Use it to improve the presentation of a real product photo, not to invent a different product.
Who can use it in Kerala and India?
A craft seller, clothing shop or home business may want consistent catalogue images without repeating a studio shoot. Students and hobbyists can explore basic editing in a Free Space. These are possible uses, not a promise that every feature is free. The official help explicitly says commercial use is not permitted in a Free Space.
Keep the product truthful
Use a sharp photo of the actual item. Inspect fabric edges, jewellery chains, glass and labels after background removal. A generated scene can make an item look a different size or colour. Do not let AI add accessories that are not included in the sale. Compare the saved image with the original before publishing.
When should you upgrade?
First test a non-commercial image. If you need commercial rights, batch editing or a specific AI feature, compare the paid plans. A subscription belongs to the Space purchased, not automatically to every Space you can access. Check the selected Space before assuming paid features apply.
Paid export limits need a fresh check
The help article describes unlimited paid exports subject to fair use, but the pricing page shows export quotas and says exports pause at the limit. These official statements do not line up cleanly. This guide does not promise unlimited exports. Confirm the quota for the selected plan and Space, and ask support if the terms conflict.
How to use it, step by step
- Open the official website. Its help directs browser users to app.photoroom.com. Sign in and choose your Space.
- Choose Explore, then Background Remover. Upload a photo you own or have permission to edit.
- Wait for background removal and inspect the cutout. Check fine edges before adding a new scene.
- Use available editor tools to adjust the background, text, graphics or shadows. A simple background is often safer for a catalogue.
- Select Download, enter a filename, choose the available format and confirm Download. Inspect the saved file at full size.
- Select Home to exit the editor and save the design. Confirm the commercial licence and marketplace image rules before using it for sales.
Cost, eligibility and limits
| Free | ₹0 for a Free Space, with limited features, monthly exports and AI generations. Official help says no commercial use. |
|---|---|
| Pro reference price | The pricing page shows US$7.50 per month, billed yearly: ~₹723/month equivalent and ~₹8,679 for the US$90 annual reference. These are rough estimates using ~₹96.43/USD from the 6 October report linked below, not Indian checkout quotes. Taxes and card conversion charges can change the total. |
| Before paying | Check the full annual charge, renewal, commercial rights, export allowance and selected Space. Higher-plan prices were not reliably mapped in the fetched page, so no price is invented. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I use Free for my shop?
Not under the official Free Space description checked here. Confirm a commercial-use plan before using images in sales material.
Is US$7.50 a monthly payment?
No. The quoted reference is billed yearly, not a month-by-month offer. Check the full charge before subscribing.
Are generated backgrounds accurate?
A convincing image may still misrepresent size, colour or included accessories. Review it against the original product.
