What it is
Loop Habit Tracker is an Android app for building habits such as drinking water, walking or reading. You tick off each day, and it shows charts and a "habit score". Its README says it is "completely ad-free and open source". It is made by volunteers, led by developer Alinson Santos Xavier. It is not an AI tool. We included it as a free everyday app.
Is it free?
Yes. Loop's website says it is "Completely free and open source (GPLv3)". The README says "All features are available to all users. There are no in-app purchases." It also says there are no advertisements. It is an Android app, available on Google Play and F-Droid, and the README says you can also install the APK from its GitHub releases page, which will not update automatically. We did not see an iPhone version.
What you can do with it
- Track as many habits as you like: the README says there are no artificial limits.
- Flexible schedules: daily, or things like three times a week or every other day.
- Habit score: a score that rises with each repetition and falls with missed days, but a few misses after a long streak will not wipe your progress, per the README.
- Reminders and widgets: a reminder for each habit at a time you choose, and home-screen widgets.
- Export your data: to a spreadsheet (CSV) or a database file (SQLite).
- Works offline: it does not need an internet connection or an account.
What to watch out for
- Android only, as far as we could see. We did not find an iPhone or computer version.
- Your habit data lives on your phone. If you lose the phone and have no backup, you could lose it. Use the export option to keep a copy.
- The privacy policy notes that if you turn on Android's own "Back up my data", Android may save a copy in Google's servers. The developers do not have access to it.
- Its website footer shows a copyright of 2016-2022 and the README says 2016-2025. We checked the Google Play listing, which is live, but did not check when the last update was.
Privacy and data
- Loop's privacy policy says all data is "only stored locally in your device" and is not uploaded anywhere.
- It says the developers do not have access to your data, and it is not shared with third parties.
- It says the app has no advertisement libraries and no third-party tracking code such as Google Analytics or the Facebook SDK.
- The README says it asks for no intrusive permissions.
India
- We saw no country limit on the Google Play listing or the project pages. We did not test the install from India.

Scoped recheck 23 October 2026: official website and GitHub README. Still "Completely free and open source (GPLv3)"; the README still says no advertisements and no in-app purchases. Added the project's own app screenshot and icon from the GPL-3.0 source repository; the page cover had been a stretched 512px store icon and now shows the official screenshot. No fact changes. Other claims retain their original source-check date. Original publication date unchanged.
