By AiCoN | Published 16 October 2026 | Sources checked 16 October 2026

Scoped recheck: 24 October 2026. We corrected the footnote note: the official listening page does explain the asterisk after "free". Original publication date unchanged.

LibriVox says its audiobooks of public-domain books are free, read by volunteers, and the project is ad-free. Third-party apps that use them are not run by LibriVox.

What it is

LibriVox is a library of free audiobooks. Its About page says its objective is "to make all books in the public domain available, narrated by real people and distributed for free, in audio format on the internet". Volunteers record the chapters. It is not an AI tool. We included it as a free listening resource.

Is it free?

Yes. LibriVox says its audiobooks are free, and calls itself "a non-commercial, non-profit and ad-free project". The recordings are in the public domain, so LibriVox says you may use them "for whatever purpose you wish". The page carries an asterisk after "free". The footnote is on LibriVox's listening page, which says the files are "free and public domain in the USA, but not necessarily everywhere in the world". So check your local copyright rules before reusing recordings.
