Lenskart Face Analysis: pick glasses from a selfie, and what happens to your photo

By AiCoN | Published 10 October 2026 | Sources checked 10 October 2026

Scoped recheck: 24 October 2026. Official documentation, pricing and policy review only; no account, repository, training, avatar, selfie, biometric, camera or payment test. Original publication date retained.

Lenskart Face Analysis suggests frame style/size from a selfie; it is not an eye test or guaranteed fit. The privacy policy’s face-photo no-sharing clause excepts its cloud-storage provider and separately describes optional biometric in-store login. Retention can extend beyond five years, and app-store privacy labels cover wider tracking/sharing.

Current limits The face-photo no-sharing clause has a cloud-storage-provider exception. Optional in-store biometric login is separate; retention is not a fixed five-year deletion guarantee.

What it is

Lenskart is an Indian eyewear shop with an app. Its Google Play listing describes Lenskart Face Analysis as an AI powered tool that helps you pick glasses for your face shape from home. You take a selfie, and the app gives a suggested frame size and recommends glasses that Lenskart says will suit you. The same listing describes 3D Try On, where you upload a photo or use your camera and try glasses on virtually.

Is it free

The app is free to download. The App Store India listing shows Lenskart as Free. The listings we read do not mention a fee for Face Analysis or 3D Try On, but Lenskart is a shop, so the tool is there to help you buy glasses. Free download is not proof that every feature, membership, eye-test or service is free. We did not complete an account flow or check a final feature paywall. Check any offer before accepting; eyewear purchases and optional memberships are separate.

Is it available in India

Yes. Lenskart is an Indian company, and the app has India listings on both Google Play and the App Store.

What happens to your selfie

For consented 3D Try On, Lenskart says it may collect photos, facial scans/images and facial data. Its no-third-party-sharing clause explicitly excepts storage on servers operated by its cloud-storage provider. The listed uses include pupil distance/face width, feature mapping, frame recommendations and service improvement; it also stores measurements submitted through the iPhone X TrueDepth camera. The retention wording remains five years from last website use, or while providing services, or as required by law, not guaranteed deletion at five years.

A separate optional face-scan-assisted login at select stores captures a face image to create a biometric identifier for authentication. The policy allows opting out and returning to ordinary login; it applies the same retention/deletion rules and cloud-provider exception. A try-on photo, face measurement and in-store authentication identifier are different records. Do not assume granting camera access means consent to every use, or that opting out deletes all stored data.

The current policy also permits anonymized/redacted data to improve services, including training its own machine-learning models, while saying personal data is not used to train third-party AI/ML models. Those are scoped statements, not a guarantee of no processing or no model improvement. Broader affiliate/service-provider, legal and cross-border processing still apply as described in the policy.

Can you ask for deletion?

The policy lists erasure/correction and consent-withdrawal requests through dataprotectionofficer@lenskart.com, subject to applicable exceptions. Ask about uploaded face images, scans/embeddings, measurements, optional in-store login identifiers and account data separately. Removing camera permission, uninstalling the app or opting out of in-store face login does not prove server data was erased. Under-18 users and people requiring a lawful guardian need the policy’s direct involvement/verifiable guardian consent; an App Store 4+ content rating is not consent permission.

How to try it

  1. Install the Lenskart app. The current India iOS listing requires iOS 15 or later; we did not verify every Android model.
  2. Open Face Analysis or 3D Try On and read the consent prompt before allowing camera/photo access. Compare its terms with the policy above.
  3. Look straight at the camera in good light, then compare the suggested frames.

Limits to know

Scoped recheck on 24 October 2026: current India store listings, privacy policy, public try-on entry and the historical 2 February 2022 engineering blog. The iOS page still requires iOS15+ and lists the app free; feature paywalls, account access, consent controls and device compatibility were not tested. Google Play discloses financial-info/app-activity sharing and collection; Apple lists purchase/contact/identifier/usage data for tracking. These are developer-provided labels and are not a privacy audit. The Google listing also describes optional assisted buying with screen sharing/control after permission; virtual try-on does not require accepting an unrelated remote-control request.

Frequently asked questions

Does Lenskart keep my selfie?

The policy allows face-photo retention for five years from last website use, continued service or law. It excepts its cloud-storage provider from face-data no-sharing wording, and separately describes optional in-store biometric login. Broader account data has different sharing/tracking disclosures. No automatic deletion at five years was verified.
