Kerala welfare pensions: ₹2,000 a month, who can apply and how
Kerala's social security (welfare) pensions now pay ₹2,000 a month. The Sevana Pension portal of the Local Self Government Department lists seven pension schemes at this rate, and its own amount-history table shows the rise from ₹1,600 to ₹2,000 took effect on 1 November 2025. The named schemes cover the elderly, widows, persons with disabilities, agricultural labourers and unmarried women above 50. Applications go through your grama panchayat, municipality or corporation - this is a local-body service, not an online-only one.
Quick facts
- Monthly amount: the Sevana Pension portal's criteria table lists all seven pension rows at ₹2,000 a month. Its amount-history table for the Agricultural Labour Pension shows the rate moved from ₹1,600 to ₹2,000 with effect from 1 November 2025.
- The schemes: the portal's application forms page names five pensions - Agricultural Labour Pension, Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, Indira Gandhi National Disabled Pension for the mentally/physically challenged, Pension for Unmarried Women above 50 years, and Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension. The criteria table shows seven rows at ₹2,000; two row names render blank on the current page, so confirm the full list with your local body.
- Who qualifies (example - Agricultural Labour Pension): per the portal's published criteria - annual family income not above ₹1 lakh; age 60 or above; at least 10 years' continuous residence in Kerala; not an income-tax payer; not a service or family pensioner (ex-gratia or NPS pension up to ₹4,000 is excluded); worked as an agricultural labourer for at least 10 years; family land not above two acres (Scheduled Tribe applicants exempted); house not above 2,000 sq ft. Other pensions have their own criteria on the same page.
- One person, limited pensions: the criteria say recipients of another social welfare pension cannot apply, except disability pension - a maximum of two pensions including EPF.
- Special-amount caveat: the page also lists "special amounts" of ₹1,500 (old age pension, 75 years above) and ₹1,100 (disability pension, 80% and above) that look like older figures next to the ₹2,000 base rate. We could not confirm from the page how these apply now - ask your local body office before counting on a specific amount.
- Site note: the portal's homepage currently shows a maintenance notice, but its inner pages - criteria, forms, pension search - open directly (links below).

How to apply
- Get the application form: download it from the portal's Download - Application Forms page (links below) or collect it from your grama panchayat, municipality or corporation office.
- Fill the form for the pension that fits - old age, widow, disability, agricultural labour, or unmarried women above 50 - and attach the documents the form asks for.
- Submit it to the local body where you permanently reside. The criteria say you cannot be an applicant or beneficiary in two different local bodies.
- After applying, track status on the same portal: Pension Search, Pension Dashboard and DBT (direct benefit transfer) pages are public.
If you or a family member may qualify - especially an elderly parent drawing the older ₹1,600 rate - the local body office can confirm the current amount and any arrears position.
