Indus by Sarvam: Indian-language AI chat app, plans and privacy limits
Scoped recheck 24 October 2026: current Sarvam Cowork plans, app page, Google Play listing and broader privacy policy compared. Phone-app plan and training-policy scope remain unconfirmed. No install, account, payment or settings test.
Indus is Sarvam's Indian-language AI chat app. A separate Cowork plans page lists Rs 0, but App-to-plan link unconfirmed. Its privacy pages also need a check.

No Indus-specific video was supplied by the cited app and launch pages, so this guide includes official artwork rather than an unrelated video.
What it is
Indus by Sarvam is an AI chat app from Sarvam AI, a Bengaluru company. Sarvam's Play Store page says it is built in India, lets you chat in Hindi, English, Tamil or a mix, and has a mic button so you can ask out loud. It also says it searches the web to give direct answers. The separate Cowork plans page says its Free tier covers chat in English and 22 Indian languages, read aloud, voice dictation, translation and basic web search.
Is it free?
Sarvam's Indus Cowork plans page lists Free at Rs 0 per user per month, with "baseline usage". App-to-plan link unconfirmed. This is not a confirmed free-plan offer for the phone app. Paid plans start at Rs 500 per user per month, excluding GST (Essential, 5x the usage of Free, plus file uploads and summaries, per Sarvam). Sarvam does not publish the free usage limit as a number, so we cannot say how many chats you get. One caution: that page is titled "Indus Cowork plans" and does not name the phone app. We could not find a page that ties the Play Store app to a specific plan, so check what you get after you sign in. The Cowork product page says "Indus Cowork is not generally available yet"; do not treat its listed plans as a confirmed open signup offer. Prices on its plans page are per user per month, excluding GST.
What the Cowork Free tier lists, per Sarvam
- Chat in English and 22 Indian languages.
- Read answers aloud and dictate by voice.
- Translate text.
- Use basic web search.
- Not on Free, per the plans page: file uploads and summaries, document translation, deep research and data analysis.
How to start
- Get the app from sarvam.ai/app (Sarvam shows a QR code and platform links), or search "Indus by Sarvam" in your app store.
- Before continuing, read the terms and privacy policy shown in the app and check its training/data setting and any usage or subscription offer. These were not tested.
Who can use it
Sarvam's Play Store page gives the app an "Everyone" content rating. That is not account eligibility. The broader Sarvam privacy policy says under-18s may not create accounts and AI service use needs verifiable parental consent. The phone app is not named in that policy's scope, so check the app's own terms before signup. Sarvam says it is hosted in India. We did not find a country list for the app.
Privacy: Sarvam's pages do not agree, so check
- Sarvam's plans page says data stays in India and that what you upload or create is not used to train models.
- Sarvam's privacy policy for its website and platform says it uses your content, including prompts, to train and improve its models unless you opt out in account settings or by email. That policy names sarvam.ai and platform.sarvam.ai in scope and mentions Indus accounts in its data tables, but does not explicitly identify the phone app. It also excludes business-offering content processed under customer agreements. The applicable app rule remains unconfirmed.
- Because these differ, we are not saying which one applies to the app. AiCoN advice: look for a training or data setting in the app, opt out if you want to, and keep Aadhaar, bank and health details out of chats.
- The Play Store data safety section says the app may collect personal info and device or other IDs, may share personal info with third parties, encrypts data in transit, and lets you ask for deletion.
- The broader policy also lists user-configurable content retention, defaulting to 30 days after last access, and account/profile retention for the account duration plus 90 days after termination unless early deletion is requested. Verified deletion requests have a stated 30-day timeline with legal, proceedings and technical exceptions. These are policy statements for its stated scope, not confirmed phone-app controls or a tested deletion promise.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work in Hindi and Tamil?
Sarvam says yes, including mixing languages. We did not test the quality.
Can it make images?
Sarvam's pages we read do not list image creation.
Is it still in beta?
Sarvam's February 2026 launch post called Indus a limited beta with a possible waitlist. We did not see a current beta notice on the pages above.
What changed since this post?
Six Sarvam and Google Play sources checked on 13 October 2026. Free Rs 0 is a Cowork-plan display, not a verified phone-app entitlement: App-to-plan link unconfirmed. Cowork is not generally available yet, per its product page. Added per-user/month prices excluding GST and the distinction between Play content rating and account age rules. Plans say no training, while the broader privacy policy says content may train models unless opted out; which applies to the phone app is unresolved. No country list or current phone-app beta conclusion confirmed. No install, account, language, voice, usage-limit, payment or privacy-setting test performed.
