Check Kerala weather warnings by district and date
An old rain-alert forward can show the wrong day, district or hazard. IMD's Kerala website has a public district-warning map with date choices and district details. We switched the forecast day and opened Malappuram's detail. Use this guide to find the live official source, not as a weather alert to keep forwarding.
Quick facts
- Useful for: Kerala residents checking the official district-level weather warning before planning outdoor activity or travel.
- Tested: desktop public map, the 1 November 2026 date choice and Malappuram's district tooltip.
- The page also links a separate District Wise Nowcast. We opened that map, but did not validate a current nowcast for an individual district.
- No account, GPS permission, personal information, Google sign-in, card or payment was requested in this lookup.
- Not tested: mobile map controls, app notifications, SMS alerts, radar interpretation or forecast accuracy.
Open the correct map
- Go to IMD's Met Centre Thiruvananthapuram homepage.
- Under Warnings, choose District Wise. The similar District Wise link under Nowcast opens a different product.
- Wait until the map and district boundaries render. Read the actual calendar dates above it.
- Select the date relevant to your plans. In our test, selecting 1 November changed the URL to include Day_3 and changed the map.
- Hover over your district on desktop to read its hazard names and Updated on label. A click also exposed details in our test, but the screenshot was captured by hovering.
- Recheck the live page before acting. A saved image and a Day_3 URL are not a permanent forecast for a particular calendar date.
What our test showed, and what it did not
At about 3:04 PM IST on 30 October 2026, we selected 1 November 2026. Malappuram was yellow on the displayed map. Its tooltip listed “Thunderstorm & Lightning, Squall etc” and “Strong Surface Winds”, with Updated on: 2026-10-30. Those are historical interface observations, not a current warning for the day you read this article.

The map's legend reads green: No warning; yellow: Watch; orange: Alert; red: Warning. Read the district's hazard detail, not only its colour. A yellow district is not automatically a heavy-rain warning: our Malappuram example listed thunderstorm and wind hazards. Do not turn that into a different hazard or assume every location within the district will have identical weather.
The screenshot contains the site's Lakshadweep inset beside Kerala. Its shape and colour are part of the original map, not a separate Kerala district. We have not redrawn or corrected the provider's interface.
Warning map and nowcast are different
The centre's activities page describes district colour-coded warnings and short-validity nowcasts. Its nowcast description gives a three-hour validity. For a short-term situation, open the separate District Wise Nowcast and read the actual issue and validity details presented there. Do not apply a general three-hour description to a bulletin without checking that bulletin.
We confirmed that the nowcast map opened and displayed Kerala district controls. We did not test an individual district's live nowcast or establish an all-clear. A green map, missing tooltip or loading state is not proof that every local risk has gone away.
Check the source, dates and hazard together
Kerala State Disaster Management Authority's weather page identifies IMD as the state's primary source of extreme-weather alerts and explains that alerts are issued on a district scale. Its rainfall page separately carries dated rainfall guidance. A rainfall bulletin and a multi-hazard map may describe different things, so compare like with like.
The selected forecast date, Updated on date and any bulletin validity are separate fields. Check each one. We did not establish an exact time-of-day validity window for this warning map, and we do not infer one from another state's document.
For safety decisions, follow the latest official warnings and local-authority directions. This map does not certify that a road, school, outdoor event, boat trip or particular building is safe. A district forecast is not a route-clearance or emergency-response service.
Why use this alongside a weather app?
The specific value is access to the official district warning, with a selected date and named hazards. A temperature card, chatbot summary or undated forward can omit those distinctions. The official map is a source to read, not a guarantee of forecast accuracy or an automatic notification service.
Privacy, cost and limitations
No payment or account was requested in our public lookup. We did not subscribe to alerts, install an app, submit a phone number or enable location access. The page loads analytics scripts; a no-login lookup does not mean no technical data collection. We did not complete a privacy-policy audit.
The centre's disclaimer says information changes and does not guarantee accuracy, accessibility, timeliness or continued retrieval of a particular view. That is another reason to recheck the live page rather than rely on this article's screenshot. This is an independent AiCoN guide, not an IMD or Kerala government bulletin. Explainer by AiCoN - not a government publication.
