HWiNFO is a Windows tool for hardware info and monitoring. Its licence page says it is free for personal and non-commercial use.
What it is
HWiNFO is a Windows program that shows what is inside your PC and how it is doing. Its homepage describes "comprehensive hardware analysis, monitoring and reporting for Windows and DOS", with live monitoring of components and reports you can save. People use this kind of tool to check a laptop's parts, temperatures and sensors. It is not an AI tool.
Is it free?
Yes, for personal use. HWiNFO's licence page says: "All versions are free to use in personal and non-commercial environments." Its download page calls HWiNFO 64 and ARM64 "FREEWARE for Non-Commercial use only". Commercial use of HWiNFO 64 or ARM64 requires an Engineer or Corporate Pro licence. Personal Pro does not allow commercial use or use in a domain. The page allows non-Pro commercial evaluation for only 14 days. Displayed starting prices are US$29 for the first year of maintenance and US$199 for Lifetime; these are not a verified Indian checkout total. Versions released before a purchased maintenance period ends remain licensed perpetually, but later updates require renewal unless Lifetime covers them. Refund requests within 14 days are subject to individual review, not guaranteed approval. No purchase or tax total was tested.
What you get for free, per HWiNFO
- The free 64-bit version needs Windows 7 or later (64-bit) and runs on x64 or ARM64 machines.
- Two download types are listed: an installer and a portable package. The portable package has HWiNFO 32, 64 and ARM64 in one download.
- The download page listed version 8.54 when we checked on 19 October 2026.
- Pro adds automatic reports and automatic sensor logging via command line, plus automatic updates, per the licence table. This is not a claim that all manual sensor logging is Pro-only. The version-history page still lists stable 8.54, released 30 September 2026, separately from the 8.55 Build 6100 pre-release.
Limits of the free version, per HWiNFO
- Shared Memory support is limited to 12 hours, then it switches off until you turn it on again.
- The on-screen display (OSD) is limited to 5 items.
- Remote monitoring of up to 5 machines is allowed, with a 12-hour limit.
Privacy and data
- HWiNFO says it "doesn't collect any personal information and doesn't transmit any data over network." This is the vendor's claim and we did not test it.
- The site shows a Slovak company name and address (REALiX, s.r.o.) at the foot of the download page.
India
- We saw no region limit on the pages. Listed USD starting prices are not a verified INR total; Indian taxes, payment and activation were not tested.
Our advice
- Download only from hwinfo.com and the mirrors it lists on its download page.
- Monitoring tools read low-level hardware data, so Windows may ask for admin permission. That is normal for this type of program. Check the file you got is from the official page before you run it.
