Hemory listening memory: costs, consent and privacy gaps

By AiCoN | Published 7 October 2026 | Sources checked 7 October 2026

Hemory turns recorded conversations into searchable memory for AI tools. Its homepage advertises phone and Apple Watch listening, MCP connections and a one-time trial. Important privacy details do not line up cleanly across the homepage and legal pages, so do not treat the short marketing promise as a verified guarantee.

What does it capture?

The homepage describes manual listening and scheduled listening, such as weekday hours. It shows memory searches that can feed reports, journals and product documents.

A transcript is an interpretation of speech. Names, numbers and who said what can be wrong. Review the source before using a generated report to represent a meeting or a commitment.

MCP access is another disclosure path

The page describes connecting memory through MCP to tools such as Claude Code, Codex and other agents. This lets a connected tool search material Hemory captured.

Giving another tool searchable memory can disclose conversations to that tool's provider. Check what it can read, where the result goes and how you remove access. Private collection does not make every later share private.

Current trial and paid quotas

The homepage lists a one-time no-payment trial of 10 listening hours, Starter at US$10 a month for 20 hours and Pro at US$20 a month for 60 hours.

At the sourced approximate Rs 96.47 per dollar reference, the listed monthly prices are about Rs 964.70 and Rs 1,929.40. These are conversions, not Indian app-store invoices; taxes and store pricing can differ.

Its Max section now lists US$50 a month, with unlimited listening subject to a 24-hour-per-day cap and fair use. Do not convert that label into an unlimited unrestricted entitlement.

Voice activity and billing

The vendor says voice-activity detection counts speaking rather than silence, gaps or background noise. That is its quota description, not a tested measurement here.

The terms say paid subscriptions renew automatically through the applicable app store unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Read the final renewal and cancellation screen before subscribing.

Audio retention needs clarification

The homepage says cloud audio is stream-processed and destroyed when processing ends, with raw audio only on the listening device. The privacy policy and terms instead say raw audio is retained by default for a limited period before hard deletion, without making that sentence's storage location or exact period clear.

Those statements are not identical. We did not establish the exact current retention behaviour from an account or technical audit. Before a private meeting, ask the service to clarify what is stored, where and for how long.

Transcripts persist differently

The privacy policy says transcripts and other user content remain until you delete them or the account. It names US AWS infrastructure and, with consent, external model providers including Anthropic, OpenAI and Microsoft Azure.

It says user content and voiceprints are not used for model training. This is a policy statement, not an independent audit. Optional speaker labelling can create voiceprints, so read that feature's consent and destruction rules separately.

Self-hosting is not a confirmed release

The homepage labels self-hosting coming soon. The terms already discuss self-hosted deployments and local inference.

Legal language about a possible deployment is not proof that a current installer is available. No self-hosted release or working setup was verified here.

Consent before convenience

Recording can capture people who did not expect it. The terms make users responsible for required notices and consent. Obtain permission before recording meetings, and respect anyone who declines.

Do not leave listening on around confidential, medical, financial or family conversations without a clear purpose and agreement. Check your employer's rules as well as the applicable law.

A cautious first test

  1. Read the current policy and resolve the retention questions first.
  2. Check device support and the actual app-store offer.
  3. Use a short, harmless recording of your own speech.
  4. Inspect the transcript and timing.
  5. Check the quota consumed.
  6. Review every memory connector's permissions.
  7. Test deleting the recording and transcript separately.
  8. Turn listening off when the test ends.

India and practical verdict

No app was installed, microphone enabled or subscription bought for this guide. The homepage links an iOS listing and a direct Android APK, while macOS, Windows, Linux, Web and self-hosting remain labelled coming soon. A direct APK link is not a verified Play Store listing or an independent safety check. Indian store availability, Malayalam accuracy, exact retention and a working self-hosted route remain untested.

What changed since the original post?

We update the illustrative rupee prices, distinguish raw audio from retained transcripts and flag the homepage-versus-legal-page retention and self-hosting gaps rather than repeating privacy-first as a guarantee.

Frequently asked questions

Are all recordings instantly deleted everywhere?

That was not established. The legal pages need clarification against the homepage.

Does the trial renew?

The homepage calls the trial one-time with no renewal. Paid subscriptions have separate renewal terms.
