What it is
freeCodeCamp is a US public charity that teaches coding in your browser, code editor or mobile app. This is a coding course site, not an AI chatbot, and it is built for people who want to learn programming. Its home page says it also covers areas such as DevOps, Cybersecurity and AI Engineering. Its home page currently leads with the certification curriculum (Responsive Web Design, JavaScript, Python and more) and a daily coding challenge.
Is it free?
Yes. freeCodeCamp's FAQ says: "Every aspect of freeCodeCamp is 100% free. The courses, the projects, and even the certifications." It describes itself as a 501(c)(3) public charity. The site is funded by donations, which are optional.
Certifications
- freeCodeCamp says you earn free verified certifications along the way.
- The home page currently lists beta certifications for English for Developers, Professional Spanish and Professional Chinese, and a "Free Foundational C# with Microsoft Certification".
- We did not check how employers see these certificates. That is up to each employer.
Who it suits and India
- Its terms say users must be at least 13 years old.
- It is aimed at people learning to code, so it is developer-leaning. If you do not want to program, it is not for you.
- freeCodeCamp calls itself a community of people from all around the world. We did not find a country list or an India-specific statement, so check that the site works for you.
- Lessons are in English on the pages we read.
- AI topics: freeCodeCamp's home page lists AI Engineering among its subjects, so some courses are about building with AI. We did not review those.
Privacy and data
- freeCodeCamp says it publishes a developer portfolio page for you when you create an account. You can set details such as your name and location to private or delete them.
- It says it does not sell your data. Its servers run on US companies, and it uses Google Analytics, which you can opt out of.
- AiCoN advice: keep your portfolio details private unless you want them public.
Frequently asked questions

What changed since this post?
Official pages rechecked on 13 October 2026. The homepage still says courses, projects and certifications are free. It also names AI Engineering, so "coding-focused" does not mean AI topics are absent. The privacy policy explicitly permits interactive lessons without an account and requires an account for certifications. India-specific availability is not confirmed. No course, sign-in or certificate flow was tested by AiCoN.
