What it is
Fossify is a set of open-source Android apps for everyday tasks. Its website describes "Open-source tools for everyday tasks: photos, calendars, files, documents, messages, calls, music, notes, camera, and more." It highlights Gallery, Calendar and File Manager as common starting points. It is not an AI tool. We included it as an ad-free set of phone basics.
Is it free?
No official page we read uses the word "free" or gives a price. What the site does say: "No ads. No advertising libraries or tracking in any app." and that code, licences, issues and releases are public. It says the apps are available from Google Play and F-Droid. We did not check the Google Play listings, so we cannot say whether any app costs money or asks for donations. Check the store page before installing.
What you can do with it
- Gallery. Browse, organize, edit, hide, recover and share local photos and videos, per the site.
- Calendar. Plan events, reminders, widgets, holidays and recurring schedules with local calendar data.
- File Manager. Browse folders, manage archives, organize storage and move files on the device.
- More apps. The site also lists apps for messages, calls, music, notes and camera.
What to watch out for
- Android only. The site describes them as Android apps.
- Each app is separate. You install each one on its own and each has its own policy.
- Maturity varies. The site labels apps such as Gallery, Calendar and File Manager as "Stable". We did not look at the status of the others.
- Not tested. We did not install any of them.
Privacy and data
- The site says the apps contain no advertising and do not track users.
- It says the apps request only the permissions needed for their features.
- The privacy page says fossify.org does not collect personal data through forms, analytics or trackers. GitHub Pages, which hosts the site, may keep ordinary server logs.
- It says each app has its own policy covering permissions, local data and external services, for example a calendar account or a mobile carrier you choose.
India
- The site mentions no country limits. We did not check the Google Play listings or prices from India.

Scoped recheck 23 October 2026: official homepage. Fossify still says "No ads" and no advertising libraries or tracking in any app. Added the project's own Gallery store screenshot from the GPL-3.0 source repository at higher resolution and set it as the page cover. No fact changes. Other claims retain their original source-check date. Original publication date unchanged.
