ElevenLabs: free voice credits, attribution and commercial-use limits
ElevenLabs offers speech generation, transcription, voice design, sound effects and music. Its free plan has 10,000 monthly credits. Free does not mean commercially licensed: publishing free-tier output has attribution rules, and paid rights also have exceptions.

What can you make?
The pricing page lists text-to-speech, speech-to-text, sound effects, voice design, music and Studio projects. Text-to-speech turns writing into audio; transcription turns speech into text. Each product has its own usage costs and feature limits.
Voice design is not permission to impersonate a real person. Use content and voices you are entitled to use, with consent where required. Do not create fake statements, deceptive endorsements or a clone of someone else's voice without permission.
How much is free?
| Free | $0, 10,000 credits per month, 3 Studio projects listed. |
|---|---|
| Starter | Current pricing FAQ lists $6/month and 30,000 credits. |
| Credits | Shared across products, not a separate full allowance for each tool. |
| No-card start | Official Studio page says free creation can start without a card. |
Credit use is not always one credit per character or a fixed number of audio minutes. Check the selected model and product's current calculation. The pricing FAQ says generations are charged, not downloads. Repeated attempts can consume credits even when you do not keep the result.
The free balance does not roll over. Paid plans have different rollover and top-up terms. A first-month promotion is not the ongoing monthly price. No Indian checkout, tax total or account-specific allowance was inspected here.
Free publication and attribution
The help page says free-plan output cannot be used for a commercial purpose. When sharing it non-commercially, it requires attribution by including elevenlabs.io or 11.ai in the title. For free Eleven Music output, the stated attribution is Eleven Music when distributing it.
Read the current service-specific terms for the product you use. A social post may have a commercial purpose if it promotes a business or is monetised; do not assume that being on a free social platform makes it non-commercial. Ask about unclear uses rather than treating the free credit allowance as a license.
Paid rights and Beta exceptions
Current help says paid plans include a commercial license provided the content is not made using Beta Services and you hold the necessary rights. It also requires compliance with its terms, prohibited-use rules and applicable law. Some products have extra conditions.
The page says eligible content generated during a paid subscription can continue to be used commercially under the service-specific terms. Content created before or after that paid period does not gain commercial rights just because the account once paid. Beta Services cannot be used commercially or in a production environment under the cited Beta addendum.
A careful free test
- Open the official site and choose the free tier. Check the product and model before generating.
- Use a short script you wrote and a permitted stock or designed voice.
- Review estimated credit use and generate a small sample.
- Listen to the complete result, including names, numbers and pronunciation. Do not rely only on a successful download.
- Before publishing, decide whether the use is commercial and apply the correct license and attribution.
- Keep the original text and generation details, and check rights again if your use changes.
We did not sign up, spend credits, generate audio or clone a voice. This is a terms-based guide, not a test of output quality or account access.
Privacy, consent and India
Audio can contain personal information, and voice recordings can identify people. Do not upload a private call or someone else's sample merely to try a cloning feature. Get permission and follow workplace or institutional rules.
The public pages do not establish an Indian account's payment path, every language's quality or a particular legal clearance. Use the site's current eligibility and product terms. This guide does not give a legal opinion about a specific voice or commercial project.
What happens when you change plans?
The pricing FAQ says cancellation keeps the subscription active through its current cycle, then returns the account to Free. Downgrading or cancelling can forfeit unused paid credits at cycle end. Review top-up charges, renewal and unused-credit terms before paying.
Free credits are useful for testing, but a large narration project needs an estimate for revisions as well as the first generation. A paid plan is not a guarantee that every output is accurate or cleared for every use.
Frequently asked questions
Can I monetise output from the free plan?
The cited help says no commercial use.
Does paying later cover earlier free output?
No. The help distinguishes content by when it was generated.
Do Beta features have the usual paid rights?
No. The cited Beta restrictions exclude commercial and production use.
What changed since the earlier post?
This guide keeps the 10,000-credit free offer but adds shared-credit use, generation charges, attribution, paid-period rights and Beta exceptions. It avoids presenting free output as ready for any monetised post.
