Duolingo free lessons: Super, Max and India guide
Duolingo offers short language lessons with a free learning experience. Super adds convenience features; Max includes specific AI conversation features on supported mobile courses. A catalogue of 100+ courses does not mean 100+ distinct languages.

What is Duolingo?
Duolingo is a language-learning service with bite-sized lessons and game-style progress. Its homepage says AI and language science tailor lessons to a learner's level and pace. Personalised lessons do not mean every free learner gets the generative-AI features sold through Max.
Who is it useful for in Kerala and India?
Students, travellers and working adults can use short lessons to start a language habit or revise basics. Choose a course that fits both the language you already know and the language you want to learn. The Super page advertises 100+ language courses, which can include teaching-language combinations. Do not read this as 100+ distinct languages or a promise of a Malayalam-based course.
Free versus Super
The Super help says the same lesson content is offered to all users as part of the free-education mission. Super adds benefits such as no ads, extra practice and unlimited attempts at Legendary challenges. The help also warns that benefits may be part of tests, including changes to Unlimited Hearts. Check the benefit list for your account rather than assuming every screen is identical.
What does Max add?
Max help lists Roleplay and Video Call with Lily through supported iOS and Android app experiences, not the web platform. Course coverage differs between features. Roleplay is listed for English speakers learning French, Spanish, German, Portuguese or Italian, with some other combinations supported too. Confirm your specific course and device before paying.
Make the habit useful
A small repeatable practice session is easier to keep than a large goal you quickly abandon. Repeat difficult material, listen carefully and say answers aloud when appropriate. Add real reading, listening and conversation outside the app. A streak or points total should not be treated as a certificate of fluency.
Trials and renewals
The Super page advertises a one-week trial. Subscription help says subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled. Check the account-specific offer, exact billing period, renewal price and cancellation method. A free trial can become paid; the free lessons do not require accepting a paid trial.
How to use it, step by step
- Open duolingo.com or follow its official app route. Choose an offered course and teaching language.
- Follow setup prompts and begin at a suitable level. Keep your practice goal small enough to repeat.
- Use free learning first. Review mistakes and repeat difficult exercises before considering an upgrade.
- For Super, open Shop through the app's gem icon or the web sidebar, then read Get Super and the benefits shown for your account.
- For Max, inspect the mobile Practice Hub and supported features. Confirm course and device eligibility before selecting a subscription.
- Before a trial, record its end date and renewal terms. Check the final local price and cancel through the relevant subscription route if you do not want renewal.

Scoped recheck 23 October 2026: Duolingo's Super page and Max announcement re-read. The one-week free trial, the 100+ language-courses line, the same learning content on Free and Super, and Super's listed benefits (Unlimited Hearts, skills practice, mistakes review, free challenge entry, no ads) all still match. Max still lists Roleplay and Video Call with Lily on iOS and Android app experiences, with course coverage limited by feature (English speakers learning Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese named).
