Coolify: free, open-source hosting platform for your own server
Coolify lets you deploy websites, databases and apps on your own server, like a Heroku or Vercel that you control. The Coolify software itself is free and open source; the infrastructure - the server you run it on - is your cost, from a free cloud VM or Raspberry Pi to a paid VPS.

Quick facts
- What it is: an open-source, self-hostable Platform as a Service (PaaS) - an alternative to Vercel, Heroku, Netlify and Railway. Deploy websites, databases and web applications, plus 360+ one-click services, to any server you connect over SSH.
- Price: the software is free forever when self-hosted, with unlimited deployments - the official pricing page says future features stay "Unlimited & free forever" for self-hosted. What is not free is the infrastructure: you pay for the server (or use a free-tier VM or a Raspberry Pi). The optional managed Coolify Cloud starts at $5/month (about ₹470) for 2 connected servers, plus $3/month (about ₹280) per extra server. Dollar conversions use the mid-market rate of about ₹94 per US dollar (rateswale.com, 22 October 2026) and are approximate.
- What you need: a Linux server with SSH access. The automatic installer normally sets up Docker, but the docs say some distributions (such as AlmaLinux) need Docker pre-installed. Non-LTS Ubuntu needs manual installation.
- Included: free automatic SSL certificates, Git integration (GitHub, GitLab, Gitea, Bitbucket), database backups to S3-compatible storage, notifications to Telegram/Discord/email and more.
- Best for: students and developers who want real hosting experience, or anyone tired of per-project hosting bills.
What it is
Coolify turns any Linux server into your own app-hosting platform. You push code to Git, Coolify builds it and ships it to your server over SSH - no vendor lock-in. It supports static sites, Dockerfiles, Docker Compose, and build packs like Nixpacks and Railpack, so most frameworks (Next.js, Laravel, Django, Rails and others) deploy without extra config. Databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Redis install in one click, with scheduled backups. Every project gets automatic HTTPS through Let's Encrypt.

Is it free?
The software: yes - open source, self-hosted, unlimited servers and deployments, free forever. The infrastructure: not necessarily. You run it on a server you control, which can be a free option (Oracle Cloud's free ARM tier, a Raspberry Pi at home) or a paid VPS. The optional Coolify Cloud service, where the makers manage the dashboard for you with daily backups and managed email alerts, costs from $5/month (about ₹470). These are the vendor's current published prices, checked 22 October 2026.
India
- Coolify runs anywhere a Linux server runs, so Indian users can host on Indian or nearby VPS regions for low latency.
- No subscription in INR is needed if you self-host; your only cost is the server you choose.
- A good fit for college projects and portfolios: deploy real apps with HTTPS on your own domain instead of expiring free tiers.
Good to know
- Self-hosting means you are the admin: updates, firewall and server security are your job. Coolify ships automatic and semi-automatic upgrades, but basics like SSH keys and ufw are on you.
- The installation docs list a minimum of 2 CPU cores, 2 GB RAM and 30 GB free storage. Running builds on the same server can make it unresponsive under high resource use; monitor usage and consider swap or a larger server. Project requirements can be higher.
- Email alerts on self-hosted need your own SMTP or Resend setup; Discord/Telegram alerts work with a webhook.
- The docs link community video tutorials if you prefer a video walkthrough of installation and deployment.
Frequently asked questions
Is Coolify really free?
The self-hosted software is free and open source with no deployment limits. You pay only for the server you run it on, or from $5/month (about ₹470) if you choose the managed Coolify Cloud.
Do I need to know Docker?
The install script handles Docker for you. Basic comfort with SSH and a terminal helps, and the docs include step-by-step setup for common providers and Raspberry Pi.
Can it replace Heroku or Vercel for my project?
For most web apps, databases and static sites, yes - with the bonus that your data stays on your server. You give up fully managed scaling and take on maintenance yourself.

Scoped recheck 23 October 2026: official pricing remains $5/month for two connected servers plus $3 for each extra server; self-hosted software remains free, infrastructure separate. Corrected installation prerequisites and minimum hardware against the installation docs. The 22 October INR estimates are historical approximations, not fresh rates. No installation or deployment test.
