What is askVERA?
askVERA is askelie's Easy Read document tool. It accepts a PDF, Word file, web address or pasted text and prepares a simpler version. Easy Read uses short sentences, plain words, clear layout and helpful pictures. It is useful for people with learning disabilities, lower literacy or those reading in a second language.
The product page describes a picture library, editing and a score against EU Easy Read Guidelines. That is the tool's own check, not proof that a document meets every accessibility or legal requirement. A rewrite can lose an exception, date or important condition even when the language looks easier.
Is it free?
The current official page advertises a free trial with no credit card. It does not state a permanent unlimited free plan or a clear trial allowance in the material checked. Use the official Try AskVera route and check the allowance shown before uploading many documents.
Personal use is offered through one-off bundles: £50 for five documents, £125 for fifteen, £200 for twenty-five and £375 for fifty. At Xe's 6 October reference of about ₹127.976 per pound, these are roughly ₹6,399, ₹15,997, ₹25,595 and ₹47,991. The Starter rate is £10 per document, about ₹1,280. INR figures are estimates, not India checkout prices; taxes and conversion can differ.
What about teams?
The page also lists sales-led annual plans. Essentials has 300 documents pooled across up to 25 licensed users at £2,200 per year, about ₹2.82 lakh at the same reference rate. Other annual plans have different document and user allowances. Ask sales for the current package, renewal, unused allowance and tax terms.
The page's broad no-subscription wording should not be read as proof that every team plan is a one-off purchase. Personal bundles and annual team contracts are different. A Kerala college, library or NGO should choose based on real document volume and review capacity.
How to create a safer Easy Read version
- Open askelie's official product page. This guide is not about the different product at askvera.io.
- Choose a short, non-sensitive source for a trial.
- Upload the source or paste its text. Request the format needed by your readers.
- Compare each rewritten section with the original. Check names, dates, amounts, warnings and exceptions.
- Edit picture suggestions so they support meaning rather than distract.
- Have an appropriate reviewer and, where possible, intended readers test it before export and sharing.
Language and privacy checks
Multiple languages are marked beta. The page names English, French, German and Spanish; Malayalam accuracy and coverage were not verified. For an Indian public notice, do not assume that a translated Easy Read version preserves legal meaning.
Before using medical, legal, HR or client records, ask where files are stored, what AI providers receive them and how deletion works. Try the tool with sample data first. Remove unnecessary personal identifiers, and keep the original document available alongside the simplified version.
What changed since the original AiCoN post?
The short post called it paid with no subscription. Current material includes a no-card trial and separate annual team plans. This guide adds those distinctions, current personal bundle prices and the need for human review.
