What it is
AntennaPod is a free podcast player for Android. Its site calls it "a podcast player that is completely open", where you can subscribe to any RSS feed, and says it is built by volunteers without commercial interest. It is not an AI tool. We included it as a free, official, no-ads app for people who listen to podcasts on an Android phone.
Is it free?
Yes. AntennaPod's About page says it is "completely free and respectful of your privacy". Its ads page says the official versions do not insert any ads, and that the project relies on donations. If a podcast publisher puts ads inside an episode, those ads still play, as the site says.
What it does
- Subscribe to any podcast by RSS feed, or browse suggestions in the Discover screen.
- Download episodes and listen offline. You can set chosen podcasts to download automatically.
- Queue: the documentation describes a queue where you line up episodes, and downloads join it automatically.
- Playback control: the About page says you can speed up or slow down playback and automate downloading and deletion.
- Sync: optional sync of subscriptions and progress between devices through a gPodder server or Nextcloud. The documentation says the free public gpodder.net server is often overloaded.
How to get it
- AntennaPod's download page says official versions are on Google Play and F-Droid only. It says other stores that list AntennaPod copied it without permission, so avoid them.
- Android only. The project says AntennaPod is not and will not be available on Windows, iOS or Linux desktop.
- GitHub shows version 3.12.3, released 13 October 2026. We did not verify the minimum Android version.
What to watch out for
- It is a plain, open-source app. Do not expect a big catalogue with exclusive shows, as in Spotify. You find shows by search, Discover or by pasting a feed address.
- Streaming and downloading podcasts uses mobile data. Use Wi-Fi to download.
- Install from the two official sources above.
Privacy and data
- AntennaPod's privacy policy (updated 17 August 2025) says the app has no advertising libraries or third-party tracking or analytics, and stores your data locally on your device.
- It says podcast servers can see your IP address and what you download or stream, as with any podcast app. Apps cannot avoid this.
- It says the Discover screen sends a request to Apple for podcast suggestions, which you can turn off.
- If you use Google Play, Google may receive crash data, per the policy.
India
- AntennaPod's pages do not restrict by country. We did not test the Play Store listing from India.
